Cost Consulting and Quantity Surveying work on numerous heritage and historic projects throughout the Lower Mainland and Vancouver Island. Work has involved developing cost models for change of use scenarios, proforma analysis for density bonus calculations, code upgrading, restoration and stabilization.

Cost Planning for the provision of conceptual through to pre-bid estimates on health care facilities, civic buildings including libraries, museums, administration buildings, hotels, recreation facilities and firehalls, residential developments from high rise office and apartment buildings to custom single family homes.

Project cost monitoring services including; review and evaluation of budgets, estimation of construction and development costs, cost planning, quantity take-off, cash flow analysis and certification and progress evaluation and approval. Projects include; Multi-family Residential Developments (up to $100 Million), Commercial Developments (up to $50 Million), Institutional (up to $25 Million), Site Development & Servicing (up to $15 Million), Light Industrial (up to $15 Million). Clients include; Financial Institutions, Pension Fund Companies, Developers, Governments and Architects.

Project and Construction Management services including; bid preparation, bid evaluation and analysis, contract negotiation and award, project scheduling, change order review and approval, project correspondence, coordination of meetings, deficiency holdback estimation and evaluation and project handover. Clients include; Public and Private sector developers and building owners.

Project arbitration and expert witness for litigation. Clients include; Lawyers, Architects and Private Individuals.

1987 to 1988: Senior Quantity Surveyor with Marshall and Murray Incorporated – Vancouver.

Project cost monitoring and traditional quantity surveying work as noted above.

1985 to 1987: Senior Quantity Surveyor with Barnett Treharne Yates Ltd. (BTY) – Winnipeg and Los Angeles.

Winnipeg: Cost planning and traditional quantity surveying work for the preparation of preliminary through to pre-bid cost estimates on Hospitals, Extended Care Facilities, Prisons, Schools, Civic Buildings, Manufacturing Facilities and Private Developments. The company’s clients included; Manitoba Health Commission, Federal Government, Provincial Government, Department of National Defense, School Boards, Boeing Canada, Architects and Developers.

Los Angeles: Cost planning and traditional quantity surveying work for the preparation of preliminary through to pre-bid cost estimates on Airports, University Buildings and LA convention Center (1992). The company’s clients included; LAX Airport Authority, Northwest Airlines, University of Southern California, City of Los Angeles and Leo A. Daly Inc. (Architect & Engineers).

1984 to 1985: Project Site Agent (Superintendent) Buckingham & Sons Ltd. – London, England.

Worked for a general building contractor on renovation and refurbishment work on local government housing projects. Responsible for on site management of the project including; coordination of sub trades, ordering of materials, scheduling of works, cost control and ensuring work is carried out to the plans and specifications.

1980 to 1983: Project Site Engineer S.M. Goldstein Ltd. – Durban and Johannesburg, South Africa.

On site management and control including; layout of work (surveying), ordering of materials, scheduling & coordination, cost control. Projects included; Chemical Plant, Civil Works (underground drainage and containment structures), Coal Mines, Townhouse Development, Office Building and Housing Development.
